Gary studied at Seale Hayne and the Royal Agricultural College before joining Grant Thornton in 1987 and is a member of the Agricultural Law Association. He has been involved in practical farm management and worked for the NFU and the Barclays Bank Group. In 1990/91 he worked in Australia lecturing at Marcus Oldham Agricultural College in farm and equine management.
Gary is the author of the first and second editions of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Accountancy and Auditing Guide for Farming. He is a partner in a 2,000 acre farming business.
Gary is a director, looking after farms and estates. He particularly specialises in setting up farming joint ventures and in solving problems in larger family owned agricultural businesses relating to strategic growth, inheritance planning and succession.
Carol joined the business in 2014 and has worked in the professional services sector since 2008. Prior to that she worked in industry and has a wealth of experience in sales, marketing and business development.
When off duty, Carol enjoys exploring the Great British countryside.
Samantha Corner MRAC CTA
After studying Rural Estate Management at the Royal Agricultural College, Sam started her career with Grant Thornton in 1997. In August 2000, she joined Saffery Champness in London and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2001. In 2009, after having her family, Sam moved to the Peterborough office of Saffery Champness where she had a wide-ranging client base including landed estates, farmers and high net worth individuals. She joined Land Family Business in late 2018.
Sam has a broad tax knowledge covering Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax as well as a detailed knowledge of the associated tax compliance requirements.
In her spare time, Sam enjoys walking her Border Terrier and most weekends are spent supporting her children at various supporting events.
Terry Rust FCCA CTA TEP
Terry started his career at an independent firm of accountants based in Cambridge, qualifying as a Certified Accountant in 2003. He subsequently qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2005 and cemented his knowledge within a specialist private client team. Terry was then admitted into the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners by completing the diploma in 2012.
Terry joined the business as Tax Manager in September 2015, bringing with him a wealth of experience of advising high net worth individuals and family owned businesses. His particular specialisms include restructuring and succession planning and giving detailed tailored advice to clients in respect of Inheritance Tax exposure and Capital Gains Tax mitigation.
Terry enjoys spending his time with his young family and keeping up with the developments on track at the British Superbikes, whenever possible.
Chrissie Deller CTA ATT MAAT
Chrissie started her career at an independent firm of accountants based in Cambridgeshire, where she gained the Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) and Association of Taxation Technician (ATT) qualifications. After moving to Saffery Champness in Peterborough, Chrissie qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2014, whilst working on a large portfolio of landed estate families, farming and Trust clients. She joined the team in June 2019.
Chrissie has an extensive tax knowledge covering Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax.
Outside of work, Chrissie enjoys spending time with her young son and sewing.
Luke Cochrane CTA ATT MAAT
Luke started his career at an independent firm of tax advisor’s based in Peterborough, where he started his training for the Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) qualification. After moving to Saffery Champness in Peterborough, Luke completed his qualification with the AAT, and also completed his qualification with the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT). Luke qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2019, whilst working on a large portfolio of landed estate families, farming and Trust clients. He joined the team in May 2020.
Luke has an extensive tax knowledge including Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax.
Outside of work, Luke enjoys playing rugby and cycling.
Will started his career at Albert Goodman in Somerset in 2000 where he gained the Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) and Association of Taxation Technician (ATT) qualifications. In 2012, Will moved to Top 11 company PKF Francis Clark’s Truro office where he supported the Head of Agriculture, managing a large portfolio of Agricultural businesses and getting involved in business development.
He moved East in 2017 to work for local firm Hardcastle Burton, before making the move to join Land Family Business in late 2018.
Will comes from a livestock farming family on Exmoor and loves spending time with his wife and young daughter.
Christine Courtman ACA
Christine started her career with a local firm of accountants, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) in 2013, before joining the team in March 2017.
Christine has experience preparing accounts for a wide variety of clients, including farming businesses. She has knowledge of assisting clients with book-keeping, Value Added Tax, Corporation Tax and Audit.
The majority of her spare time is spent with her husband and young children.
Elliot Wheeler BA (Hons)
After A levels Elliot qualified in AAT level 3 before graduating from Nottingham Trent University with a BA (Hons) degree in Accounting and Finance. Elliot Joined the team in June 2018 and is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant under the ACCA.
In his spare time Elliot enjoys playing guitar, reading and is a big fan of MMA.
Rez joined LFB in 2018 with over 20 years’ experience in office management both in the private and public sectors, including working for a large London local authority and two multi-national companies.
Prior to that, Rez started her career in London as a Graphic Designer creating brand identity, company logos and other creative outputs. In 2014, Rez achieved an upper second-class BA Honours degree in Professional Photography.
In addition to being the PA to Gary Markham and Carol Walton with responsibilities for front of office and office management, Rez manages the creative aspect of the business - including print and digital media design, photography and organising corporate events.
In her spare time, Rez enjoys photography, painting and up-cycling furniture.
